Step-by-Step Makeup Tutorial

FACE MAKEUP

1.) Apply and blend in a medium-full coverage foundation that has a velvety, matte finish.

2.) Use concealer as necessary to cover blemishes and brighten dark under eye circles.

EYE MAKEUP

3.) Highlight your brow bone with a matte cream-colored eyeshadow.

4.) Press a shimmering peachy-pink color onto the inner halves of your eyelids.

5.) Blend a matte chocolatey pink onto the outer halves of your eyelids and up into your crease.

6.) To create the perfect wing, place medical tape onto the outer corners of your eyelids. You can see exactly how to do this here.

7.) Dampen an angled brush and line your upper lash line with a deep matte red eyeshadow. Extend the line out, over the medical tape, to create a dramatic wing.

8.) Gently peel the medical tape off to reveal your perfectly winged eyeliner.

9.) Brush a black lengthening mascara onto your upper and lower lashes OR apply false lashes to your upper lash line. If applying false lashes, blend them into your natural eyelashes with a black mascara after they’ve been applied. Then, sweep a touch of mascara onto your lower lashes.

10.) Fill in your brows with a tinted brow gel.

FINISHING TOUCHES

11.) Apply a light, coral-pink blush onto the apples of your cheeks.

12.) Highlight your face with a shimmering champagne highlighter.

  • Brush the highlighter onto your cheek bones,
  • up the bridge of your nose,
  • and on your cupid’s bow.

13.) Apply a dusty rose lipstick.

14.) Spritz on a setting spray to lock in your look.

My favorite eye makeup look doesn’t include eyeshadow. I just thought I’d reveal that nugget of information right off the bat. Don’t get me wrong, I love eyeshadow, but I don’t wear it on a daily basis. To create my signature, favorite, eye makeup look all you need is eyeliner, mascara, and maybe some falsies. Simple. Flattering. Perfect.

PRODUCTS

Fav Eye Makeup Looking to the Side

To create this look I used my tried and true, holy grail as they say, eye makeup products:

  • thebalm Schwing Liquid Eyeliner in Black
  • pixi Endless Silky Eye Pen in BlackNoir
  • thebalm Mad Lash Mascara
  • Optional: Ardell Studio Effects #110 Layered Lashes

TUTORIAL

How to Do a Classic Cat Eye Makeup Look

Step One: Line your upper lash line with a liquid eyeliner and create a wing. For a quick and easy wing, try using medical tape.

Step Two: Line the outer corner of your waterline with an eye pencil.

Step Three: Swipe Mascara on your upper and lower lashes OR apply a pair of false lashes and blend them into your natural lashes with a touch of mascara.

Ta-da! You’re gorgeous darling!

WHY THESE PRODUCTS

Fav Eye Makeup Selfie

All of these products are cruelty free, fairly priced, and they work.

The liquid liner is long lasting and pigmented. With practice, I find that I’m able to apply it and create a cat eye quickly and easily. The pencil eyeliner glides on smoothly and delivers bold color. One swipe on the outer corners of my waterline and my eyes are instantly defined and brightened.

The mascara from theBalm quickly gives you lengthened and curled lashes. Seriously, a few swipes and your lashes are looking luscious. I love the curved wand, and besides the great formula, I think the wand is what plays a major role in how easy and effective this mascara is.

But, if like me, you like to up the ante from time to time, grab a pair of Ardell Studio Effects Lashes #110. The secret to applying these is patience. Apply the glue to your false lash strip then wait. 30. seconds. In the past I’ve gotten antsy trying to apply my lashes after only 10-15 seconds, that won’t work and you’ll inevitably become frustrated. Hang tight for 30 seconds and your lashes will adhere with ease.

WHY THIS LOOK

Winged Eyeliner

It’s classic. It’s also something that can be created quickly and easily, with practice. I know drawing on a perfect wing and applying false lashes can be daunting, but with practice it’s a breeze. If it were struggle, I wouldn’t do it almost every single day.

This look is flattering without distracting away from your natural beauty. It defines your eyes and draws attention to them. I feel like I still look like myself when wearing this look. The lack of eyeshadow keeps this otherwise dramatic look bare and wearable throughout the day and into the evening.

A classic cat eye looks glamorous on everyone and is always in style.

The simplicity of this eye makeup allows you to have fun with your lip color. Natural, purple, brick red, you can wear any shade, no matter how daring or bold with this eye makeup look. I love playing with lip colors and this combo of lashes and liner allows me to do so as I please.

Tomorrow is the first day of May! How did April go by so quickly? I know I’m posting this April makeup look at the last minute, but it is a look that will work throughout May and well into the summer.

Like the makeup tutorials I’ve been sharing every month this year, this month’s look is inspired by the Too Faced Boss Lady Beauty Agenda palette. I’m re-creating the look shared for the month of April and putting my own spin on things. Don’t worry, you don’t need this palette to re-create this look, use similar colors as they are described in the tutorial below. If you do have the palette handy, eyeshadow names from the palette are written in parentheses.

2.) Use concealer as necessary to cover blemishes and brighten dark under eye circles.

EYE MAKEUP

3.) Fill your crease with a shimmering pink eyeshadow (Unwrap Me).

4.) Blend a golden shade (Party Over Here) of eyeshadow in the inner and outer corners of your eyelid.

5.) Over the center of your lid, press on a pale pink (Christmas Dream).

6.) Line your upper lash line with a black liquid eyeliner. Create a little cat eye if you’d like.

7.) Line the outer corners of your lower lash line with a black pencil liner.

8.) Fill your brows with your preferred brow gel.

Blend the faux lashes in with your natural lashes by applying a few sweeps of mascara. Then, brush some mascara over the lashes along the outer corners of your waterline. I went for the faux lashes in this look!

FINISHING TOUCHES

10.) Brush a mauve-y, light pink (Will You Merry Me?) blush onto the apples of your cheeks.

11.) Apply a shade of matte lipstick that intensifies your natural lip color. I went for something slightly deeper than my natural lip color.

12.) Secure the look with a setting spray and you’re done!
