Finding socially conscious brands that don’t break the bank is quite the undertaking, but lucky for me, La-Ta-Da has introduced me to its line of socially conscious hair accessories. La-Ta-Da does more than dress up your hairdo, for each purchase made, $0.05 is donated to the Girl Up United Nations Foundation from now through the end of this year. Five cents isn’t a lot, but it’s something. When La-Ta-Da first contacted me I was excited to work with the brand for 2 reasons: They create stylish and cute hair accessories for women and girls and they support positive social impact.

Each of the 4 quick and easy hairstyles below features an affordable La-Ta-Da hair accessory.

FOUR QUICK AND EASY HAIRSTYLES

Music Festival Glam

Beaded Headwrap from La-Ta-Da

This is my go-to hairstyle for music festivals. For this romantic hairstyle, start by placing a head wrap over your head. Next, begin wrapping pieces of hair around the bottom of the head warp and securing them in place with bobby pins. Any layers of hair left framing your face can be pinned back with bobby pins or quickly curled with a curling iron.

Polished Ponytail

Faux Leather Headband La-Ta-Da

Instead of a boring old ponytail, dress up your style very simply by adding a headband to your look. I think this is a great option for work or running errands. For this look, I put my hair in a high ponytail and then slid on a headband. That’s it!

To dress the look up even more, you could take a strand of hair from the underside of your ponytail and wrap it around your hair tie. Secure the hair in place with bobby pins and spritz it with some hair spray to keep everything secure.

Undone Bun

Geometric Marble Barrette from La-Ta-Da

To keep your look modern when rocking a traditional hair barrette, I suggest wearing your hair in a messy bun. Clip the barrette to the front or back of your bun to add eye-catching style. I clipped a barrette in under my bun, on the back of my head, to add a little surprise to this otherwise relaxed and casual look.

Clip it Back

Gold and Marble Barrette La-Ta-Da

I loathe having pieces of hair in my face when I’m focused and trying to accomplish something. In those situations, I need to have a bobby pin or barrette handy to quickly secure my strands. To create this simple hairstyle, that you can do whenever you need to pull your hair back, grab a piece of hair along the left side of your face and a piece of hair along the right side of your face. Bring these pieces of hair around the crown of your head and fasten them together with a geometric barrette.

I had a particularly unruly piece of hair that was sticking up when I did this, if that happens, grab a bobby pin and secure whatever pieces of hair don’t want to cooperate.

SOCIALLY CONSCIOUS HAIR ACCESSORIES

Beaded Silver Head Wrap (1 Pc) – $11.99

Gold and Marble Barrette La-Ta-Da

This head wrap is a great option if you’d like to add some glitz and glamour to your look. The silver beads are glued, not sewn, onto the black head wrap. The section of the head wrap that is embellished with beads doesn’t have any elasticity. The stretchy pieces that go around the back of your head are stretchy, ensuring a snug fit.

I tend to avoid head wraps like this, unless rocking the styling suggestion above, because they tend to slide out of place or right off the back of my head completely. This one felt like it would do the same. Even though there is only one hairstyle I can wear this head wrap with, I couldn’t wear that hairstyle at all if not for the head wrap. It’s essential! I’m looking forward to bringing it to and wearing it at the next music festival I attend.

Faux Leather Bow Headband – Tan (1 Pc) – $9.99

La-Ta-Da Faux Leather Headband

This headband adds a casually chic touch to your look. The faux leather on the outside of this headband is very soft to the touch and smooth. The underside of the headband is also tan, but made of a shiny, satin feeling material.

The band of this headband is pliable, but doesn’t feel like it will lose its shape. This headband hugs my head without being too tight. It stays in place whether I wear it with my hair up or down.

White Marble Geo Barrette (1 Pc) – $7.99

La-Ta-Da Marble Barrette

This barrette has a modern yet classic look. The hardware of this barrette is brushed gold, that has a smooth finish. The barrette is decorated with three white marble circles and two white marble triangles that have a soft matte finish as well.

I honestly can’t remember the last time I’ve worn a barrette. They’re a bit old school for my taste, but as I said, this barrette has a modern look. This is thanks to the geometric design of the white marble circles and triangles. I did have some difficulty clasping this barrette shut at first, but after a few tries I was able to secure it in my hair. I think I may have been trying to put too much hair it in. While this is not my favorite item of the La-Ta-Da bunch, I do love how it dresses up an undone bun.

Marble & Metal Round Barrette (1 Pc) – $7.99

La-Ta-Da Hair Clip

This round barrette with a clip closure is perfect for securing strands of hair or adorning an updo. Like the White Marble Geo Barrette, this barrette has smooth brushed gold hardware. The decorative aspect of this barrette is a semi-circle of white marble inlaid into a semi-circle of brushed gold.

The simple design of this barrette makes it very wearable, yet still a standout when it comes to accessorizing your hair. Like the other barrette, I did find that if I tried to clip too much hair back into this barrette, it wouldn’t fasten. On the other hand, if I didn’t add enough hair to it, it would just slide off or not stay in place. After adding too much hair, then too little, I was able to secure just the right amount.

What to Wear when Traveling for the Holidays

I’m sure a lot of you are traveling right now, are you comfortable? Traveling by car, boat, plane, or train is difficult enough already, don’t make things worse by dressing uncomfortably. And, no, I’m not about to suggestion that you travel in pajamas. Pajamas are for bed, not the airport.

To guarantee your comfort throughout your travels, dress in layers. That is seriously the best thing you can do for yourself! My ideal cold weather travel ensemble is as follows: a long sleeve dress, blanket-like cardigan, winter coat, scarf, leggings, knee-high socks, and boots.

Let’s Break it Down:

  • Long Sleeve Dress – You could swap this out for a long sleeve tunic.
  • Blanket-like Cardigan – Any loose fitting, warm cardigan would work.
  • Winter Coat¬†– You’re most likely traveling to or from cold weather and a coat will be necessary, don’t pack it, save that precious suitcase space and wear it!
  • Scarf – It’ll keep you warm and can be folded up to double as a make-shift pillow.
  • Leggings – Or thick tights, like I’m wearing in the photos below. Either way, pick a pair that’s comfortable.
  • Knee-high Socks – Or any socks that fit at or above your ankle. You don’t want your socks sliding off the back of your heels while you’re walking around, that’s why I suggest that they hit above your ankle or higher. Having your socks slide off your heels, especially in boots, is SO annoying.
  • Boots – Just like the winter coat, don’t pack your boots, they take up too much space, wear them!

If you’re traveling in or out of true winter weather (snow, freezing rain, temperatures in the 30’s or lower) you’re going to want to add a hat and gloves to this list too!

What to Wear When Traveling

Outfit Ideas!

Look One:

In this look we’re keeping everything neutral and simple. Combinations of black and gray are winter-y and classic. Due to its laid back vibes and neutral palette, the cardigan in this outfit can be worn throughout your trip to give you extra warmth when you’re out and about or it can keep you cozy when you’re snuggling up on the couch. I’m picturing this cardigan with pajamas, a glass of wine, a good movie, and family.

Look Two:

This outfit has a lighter feel and look to it. It’s still neutral overall, but the addition of pale pink and cream soften the look. The Madewell scarf is the stand out piece in this outfit. It’s versatile and, because of the pastel colors, can be worn through spring. The Free People dress is a favorite of mine too, it keeps this outfit trendy and cool.

Look Three:

This is the most festive outfit of the bunch. The combination of evergreen and deep red hint at Christmas without being in-your-face-obvious. I love and would wear all of these outfits, but I must confess that this last ensemble is my favorite. It has the most affordable pieces too, which means I may be rocking some of these pieces myself in the next few weeks! I’m not traveling this year, but I still need casual outfits for family gatherings!

To create your ideal travel look, combine pieces pictured above. Or, to save you time, the above options have already been organized in head to toe looks. It’s a no-brainer, get these items and your look is jet-set ready!

Which of the above looks is your favorite?

‘Twas a long time ago, longer now than it seems
In a place that perhaps you’ve seen in your dreams.
For the story that you are about to be told
Began with the holiday worlds of old.

Now, you’ve probably wondered where holidays come from.
If you haven’t, I’d say it’s time you begun. . .

Okay, maybe it’s not time to wonder where holidays come from, but it is time to get into the Halloween spirit! October 1st is on Sunday and I didn’t want to miss out on an opportunity¬† to share a festive fall outfit that can be worn the first week of October and throughout the month!

Cute Fall Outfit Ideas

I had to put the earrings on the skull in this one, I couldn’t help myself!

The nod to Halloween in this outfit is clearly given in the black lace crystal skull sweatshirt. I got this a few years ago from Express and while it’s statement making throughout the year, I tend to style outfits around it specifically during October.

Black Tassel Earrings for Fall

A closer look at the black tassel earrings and smokey crystal necklace I chose to style with this top.

You may recognize the black tassel earrings pictured above. I’ve posted about them before here and here. With all the sparkle on the shirt and in the necklace, I thought it would be best to pick dramatic earrings that don’t shine and therefore won’t steal the show from the real focal point here: the skull!

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Nosferatu

There’s no better choice than red lips and black nails for October!

Adding to the dark, yet chic vibe of this ensemble, I thought this deep red lipstick and black nail polish would compliment this outfit divinely. The long lasting matte lipstick is¬†Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Nosferatu. One of my favorite reds! It’s a deep brick red that quickly dries matte and lasts for hours.

The black polish is Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Nail Color in Black to Black. I love Sally Hansen’s Insta-Dri nail polishes because the wide applicator makes them easy to brush on. They also dry very quickly and the color lasts close to a week before chipping.

Gap Girlfriend Jeans for Fall

These girlfriend jeans are a great piece to use while transitioning your wardrobe from Summer to Fall.

I get so much use out of these girlfriend jeans. They’re form fitting at the top with a relaxed fit through the leg. They have a capri length and distressing at the knees. The shorter length and rips at the knees are the aspects of these jeans that make them such a good option for Fall.

Black Booties Express

Black booties are a staple in any wardrobe!

These black booties with a moderate heel and buckle detail are very versatile. While completing this look, they also look SO good when worn with dresses and tights OR leggings and an over-sized sweater. Hmm, I think I’ll give you examples of those ideas in some upcoming fashion posts!

Lace and Crystal Black Skull Design

Showing off the black lace and crystal skull detail in the sweatshirt.

Just look at this skull! I love it! Not only is the skull made of lace, the eyes and nose are full of smoky crystals. While the crystals are 3-Dimensional, the skull is not. The skull is a printed onto the sweatshirt fabric.

Black Lace Top

Surprise!

The back of this sweatshirt holds a surprise! Instead of continuing the cream colored fabric that is throughout the sweatshirt onto the back of the sweatshirt, the back is made of completely sheer black lace. If it’s a warmer Fall day, you can wear a tank under this shirt or even just a crop top or bralette. If it’s on the chillier side, layer this sweatshirt over a form-fitting long sleeve shirt.

Each Piece in this Cute Fall Outfit:

    1. Smoky Crystal Necklace – Gift (I don’t know where it was purchased.)
    2. Black Tassel Earrings – Ambiance San Francisco
    3. Black Lace and Crystal Skull Sweatshirt – Express
    4. Girlfriend Jeans – Gap
    5. Booties – Express
    6. Brick Red Lipstick – Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Nosferatu
    7. Black Quick Drying Nail Color – Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Nail Color in Black To Black
