Halloween In A Pandemic

It’s time to come to terms with the fact that COVID-19 is going to greatly impact the holiday season. Wasn’t this supposed to go away in 3 weeks?! Needless to say, my favorite holiday, Halloween, is going to look very different this year.

This is Halloween, in a pandemic.

Halloween In A Pandemic

I’ve been at a complete loss when it comes to Halloween this year. What are we going to do? Trick-or-treating door-to-door is a big no-no. Reaching into bowls of candy on a doorstep who knows how many other kids have reached into seems even worse.

While having a video chat with my college besties last week, the topic of holidays came up. It started with Christmas, but I steered it towards Halloween. One of my friends came up with this idea: What if you have an Easter Egg Hunt but with Halloween candy instead?

I told her, and I’m sticking to my word here, YES! I love this idea so much, I’m going to blog about it. Here we are, getting very meta.

Halloween Candy Hunt Supplies

Another friend immediately started showing off Halloween themed “eggs” that she found on Amazon. There are orange eggs with black outlines of Halloween themed images like witches on broomsticks, ghosts, and spiders. There are white eggs made to look like little skulls. My favorites are the little pumpkins ready to be filled with Halloween candy!

Take a closer look!

This idea works wonderfully wherever you live. If you live in a warm climate and have outdoor space, you could hide your eggs, skulls, or pumpkins in your yard right before dusk and have your little ones use flashlights to find them.

If you live in a cooler climate or don’t have room to take the hunt outdoors, have your trick-or-treaters hide out in their rooms while you hide their candy surprises around your house. You could even turn some lights off and use flashlights indoors to make it extra spooky!

Here’s hoping that we’ll be back to costume parades, block parties, and trick-or-treating next year. Here’s hoping we will NOT be having Halloween in a pandemic next year.

In the meantime, I am all about having a Halloween candy hunt, how about you?

Thank you for the inspiration for this post @SportsJackie, Abbs, and Britt! XOXOXO

I think we need to worry about the wildfires first. 🙁

Halloween is my favorite holiday! I want to start watching Halloween movies right now. My boyfriend and I still might dress up anyway for a cool picture at home.

Go for it! I think dressing up to take pics is a great idea! Do you know what you’re going to dress up as?

Not sure yet, we’ve dressed up as Russell & Kevin the bird from Up in the past so maybe something Disney themed.
