To talk about a major form of self-care, stress relief, I thought I’d share what’s currently taking over my life and how I’m dealing with the stress of it.

SFUSD Registration Process
The San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) is at the very top of my list of stressors lately and, unfortunately, will be through next Spring. Here’s a little bit about the SFUSD registration process, it’s a lottery. To make this explanation as succinct as possible, parents tour schools, parents write down a list of schools they’d like their child to attend, parents are assigned a school for their child to attend at random. If you’d really like to get into the nitty-gritty, go here.
Finding a way to deal with the stress of not having any control over where my daughter attends school next year and the everyday stressors of life is a necessity. Here’s how I’ve been dealing with my stress over the last few weeks.
Dealing With Stress
Exercise
I find exercising to be a huge stress-reliever. Exercising forces me to focus on something other than registering my daughter for school. Whether I’m dancing at ODC, clipping in at SoulCycle, or practicing yoga, exercise is truly good for my mind and my body. It’ll be good for you too, I promise!
Getting A Massage
When the tension in my shoulders became borderline unbearable, I booked a massage. It was 1 hour of stress-free bliss. My body and my mind both felt better afterward. That was about 2 weeks ago and I am definitely ready to get my next massage scheduled ASAP.
Massages don’t have to be a huge expense. Check out Groupon deals in your home town or see if there is a local massage school near you. Massage schools often run Massage Clinics that give up and coming masseuses a chance to practice on someone like you. If not free, these massage sessions will be deeply discounted.
Getting A Mani/Pedi
Another great coping mechanism for me is getting my nails done. I can’t stay glued to my phone when someone is working on my nails and that is a very good thing. Plus, the nail salon I go to gives mini-shoulder massages with all of their manicures. It’s heavenly!
Taking A Bath
Hot baths may not be great for my skin, but they are so good for my mind. Like massages, baths relieve muscle tension and are very relaxing. I love adding bubble bars or bath bombs to my baths to benefit from some aromatherapy too.
How do you deal with stress? How unbelievable is the SFUSD registration process? Let’s vent and share in the comments!
Have a great week everyone! Let’s all take a deep breath or two, or three, before continuing on with the day. Breath in, breath out, breath in, breath out…

To add to your list stated- a mini vacation does oceans for the soul (especially if booked on the ocean) and prayer – surrendering up all situations is huge ! I actually feel emotionally and physically relaxed after prayer ???? like a big weight lifted.
