Before beginning this post, I’d like to give a special shout-out to Dr. Karen Horton! Thank you so much for becoming $10 tier patron!
Happy Pride weekend everyone! To celebrate I’m excited to share with you that I’ll be dancing in the San Francisco Pride Parade Sunday, June 30th! How are you celebrating this weekend?
I’ll be dancing with the Rhythm & Motion Dancers’ Group. This group is representing ODC Dance Commons, Dancers Group, Alonzo King LINES Dance Center, San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival, Latin Dance Grooves, and Berkeley Ballet Theater. There are a total of 193 of us dancing together! We’re doing 3 Pride routines to:
- “You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real) – Sylvester
- “Americans” (2019) – Janelle Monae
- “Compromise” – Molly Kate Kestner
Each is meaningful in its own way and I’m so proud to be a part of this dance group. I’ll share more with you about my experience after the parade. So far I’ve been attending rehearsals, classes, and practicing at home to get the routines down. If you’re there, look for me in a short rainbow striped skirt. I’m excited to say that I’ll be one of the dancers leading my group!
Although we’re 193 strong, we are just a small part of this massive parade. To get a taste of the size, check out this 7-page list of parade participants.
The parade begins at 10:30 am PST. It marches down Market Street, starting at Embarcadero and ending at Civic Center where the Celebration and Rally will take place. If you plan on having little ones with you, like we will, head to the Family Garden which will provide a less crowded area for little ones to celebrate in. You can find everything you need to know about the parade, including how to get there (BART, do NOT drive), right here.
Have a safe and wonderful weekend! Happy Pride!
