I’ve always loved the look of long, dramatic lashes. After trying mascara after mascara, I found a primer/mascara combo at Sephora, it was figuratively and literally eye-opening. This magical mascara primer duo was tragically discontinued and I’ve been trying to replace it ever since. I’ll try a primer, get frustrated, wait a while, then I’ll try a new one only to have the cycle continue. Then this velvet primer was released from one of my favorite beauty brands. Here’s my complete and 100% honest Marc Jacobs Beauty Velvet Primer review.

Velvet Primer Review
Have you noticed that your eyelash primer has a white tint? This can make the primer difficult to fully mask with your mascara, especially if you’re not using a truly opaque black. The beige shade of this primer is easier to cover with any color mascara. This is great considering the colorful mascara Spring 2019 trend that is currently happening. The Velvet Primer won’t dull the mascara you’re layering on top of it like a white primer might, keeping your bold mascara colors vibrant.
Velvet Primer Review – Packaging
The packaging of the Marc Jacobs Beauty Velvet Primer Epic Lash Primer is simple and chic. Most Marc Jacobs Beauty products are enclosed in black tubes, palettes, or compacts, but being a primer the Velvet Primer is in a white tube with a shiny silver cap. The packaging is a bit large but easy to use. It may be difficult to travel with so I’m hoping Marc Jacobs Beauty will be releasing a travel size version of this Velvet Primer to take on my next trip.
Velvet Primer Review – Performance
The primer made a significant difference from wearing the Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara alone. The primer plus the mascara did everything but curl my lashes. This product combo gave me much longer, dramatic looking lashes. I love that besides adding length and volume to my lashes, this epic lash primer also conditions my lashes. It leaves your lashes soft and healthy. In fact, it states on the Marc Jacobs Beauty site that you can put this primer on overnight to act as a lash mask.
To get the most out of your Velvet Primer Epic Lash Primer during the day, apply your mascara quickly after coating your lashes with the primer. Continue brushing your mascara on until the primer is completely covered up.
Being a designer beauty product this primer is not cheap, one tube is $26.00. I purchased the Velvet Duo, including the Velvet Primer and the Velvet Noir Mascara. The mascara is also $26.00, bring this duo to $52.00. I really wish they’d knock off a few dollars and make purchasing the Velvet Duo a deal.
The Velvet Duo, Velvet Primer, and Velvet Noir Mascara are all available on marcjacobsbeauty.com. With a purchase of $75+ you can get free 2-day shipping.
The Velvet Primer is also available at the same price at Neiman Marcus. Free shipping is complimentary with all purchases from Neiman Marcus, regardless of how much you spend.
What are your thoughts on this Primer? Worth it or too pricey? I hate that it’s expensive but love the look it gives my lashes!
