Living right here in the beautiful Bay Area I don’t need to find a place to stay, I’m home. But if I were traveling here, Park James Hotel would be at the very top of my list of places to stay. I was lucky enough to attend their Grand Opening last week and it was spectacular.
To start the evening off on the right foot, a red carpet and a paparazzi-style photo op greeted guests. Park James Hotel knows how to make you feel welcome, and like a star. Following the red carpet, I found an outdoor seating area with comfy couches, modern tables, and a roaring electric fireplace. Being located conveniently in Menlo Park, CA, I can see this outdoor lounge area being utilized consistently throughout the year. Even if it gets chilly in the winter months, the fire is right there to keep you warm.
Although I wanted to sit down and relax, I had to see the rest of what the Park James Hotel has to offer. Heading in, I was greeted by a large table full of one of my favorites: charcuterie. This spread of meats and cheeses was displayed in the indoor portion of Oak + Violet, the restaurant located in the Park James Hotel. While you can enjoy the delicious dining options as part of your Park James Hotel stay, you also have the option of enjoying “California’s finest ingredients” whenever you’d like. Having already earned a 4-star rating on Yelp, I wouldn’t hesitate to make a reservation for your next dinner date.
Passing through Oak + Violet, led me to the reception area and the spectacular bar. The bar and lounge area are truly an indoor-outdoor experience. While standing at the bar ordering beer, wine, or a signature cocktail you’re treated to views of the inviting outdoor living room, a space large enough for not only you and your friends but for your next big event. There were around 550 people the night I visited and the hotel could have easily accommodated more.
From here, I grabbed some lobster and crab from the stunning ice bar and headed upstairs to tour some of the hotel’s rooms. Guests of the grand opening were given the opportunity to visit a Superior King Suite, Superior King Room, and Superior Rooms with 2 Queen Beds. I love the decor, it’s modern, trendy, and functional. If you’re staying at the Park James Hotel on a business trip, the Superior King Suite is the room for you. The living area features a large wooden Murphy Bed. This thoughtful inclusion gives extra travelers a place to sleep at night and after folding it up in the morning, a comfortable area for you and your colleagues to conduct a business meeting.
Among the many amenities that this hotel offers, the ones that really stood out to me were the accessibility that the hotel offers and the tech. Superior King Rooms, Superior King Suites, and Superior Rooms with 2 Double beds are all offered in an accessible version. On the tech side of things, each room comes with a tablet sharing all of the information you’d normally find in a pamphlet or booklet upon entering your room. Since my generation is phone call phobic, you can make service requests from this tablet too. No need to pick up the phone and make a call, you can conveniently type in whatever you require. Naturally, the Park James Hotel offers complimentary high-speed wi-fi, a must in Silicon Valley, and it is pet-friendly (another must in my opinion).
Back outside, the highlight of the evening was spending time in the large outdoor area where a stage, dance floor, and the band General Public were ready to rock. I immediately recognized their opening hit “Tenderness” and couldn’t help but break out into dance. I must admit I’m a fan of this song because it was featured in “Clueless,” a classic movie for 90s girls like me. I loved watching the crowd enjoy the live music and everything the hotel has to offer. The Park James Hotel offers a place to stay and a sense of community. As the purple neon sign above the entrance says, “No Strangers Here Only New Friends.”
