Finding socially conscious brands that don’t break the bank is quite the undertaking, but lucky for me, La-Ta-Da has introduced me to its line of socially conscious hair accessories. La-Ta-Da does more than dress up your hairdo, for each purchase made, $0.05 is donated to the Girl Up United Nations Foundation from now through the end of this year. Five cents isn’t a lot, but it’s something. When La-Ta-Da first contacted me I was excited to work with the brand for 2 reasons: They create stylish and cute hair accessories for women and girls and they support positive social impact.
Each of the 4 quick and easy hairstyles below features an affordable La-Ta-Da hair accessory.
FOUR QUICK AND EASY HAIRSTYLES
Music Festival Glam
This is my go-to hairstyle for music festivals. For this romantic hairstyle, start by placing a head wrap over your head. Next, begin wrapping pieces of hair around the bottom of the head warp and securing them in place with bobby pins. Any layers of hair left framing your face can be pinned back with bobby pins or quickly curled with a curling iron.
Instead of a boring old ponytail, dress up your style very simply by adding a headband to your look. I think this is a great option for work or running errands. For this look, I put my hair in a high ponytail and then slid on a headband. That’s it!
To dress the look up even more, you could take a strand of hair from the underside of your ponytail and wrap it around your hair tie. Secure the hair in place with bobby pins and spritz it with some hair spray to keep everything secure.
To keep your look modern when rocking a traditional hair barrette, I suggest wearing your hair in a messy bun. Clip the barrette to the front or back of your bun to add eye-catching style. I clipped a barrette in under my bun, on the back of my head, to add a little surprise to this otherwise relaxed and casual look.
Clip it Back
I loathe having pieces of hair in my face when I’m focused and trying to accomplish something. In those situations, I need to have a bobby pin or barrette handy to quickly secure my strands. To create this simple hairstyle, that you can do whenever you need to pull your hair back, grab a piece of hair along the left side of your face and a piece of hair along the right side of your face. Bring these pieces of hair around the crown of your head and fasten them together with a geometric barrette.
I had a particularly unruly piece of hair that was sticking up when I did this, if that happens, grab a bobby pin and secure whatever pieces of hair don’t want to cooperate.
SOCIALLY CONSCIOUS HAIR ACCESSORIES
Beaded Silver Head Wrap (1 Pc) – $11.99
This head wrap is a great option if you’d like to add some glitz and glamour to your look. The silver beads are glued, not sewn, onto the black head wrap. The section of the head wrap that is embellished with beads doesn’t have any elasticity. The stretchy pieces that go around the back of your head are stretchy, ensuring a snug fit.
I tend to avoid head wraps like this, unless rocking the styling suggestion above, because they tend to slide out of place or right off the back of my head completely. This one felt like it would do the same. Even though there is only one hairstyle I can wear this head wrap with, I couldn’t wear that hairstyle at all if not for the head wrap. It’s essential! I’m looking forward to bringing it to and wearing it at the next music festival I attend.
Faux Leather Bow Headband – Tan (1 Pc) – $9.99
This headband adds a casually chic touch to your look. The faux leather on the outside of this headband is very soft to the touch and smooth. The underside of the headband is also tan, but made of a shiny, satin feeling material.
The band of this headband is pliable, but doesn’t feel like it will lose its shape. This headband hugs my head without being too tight. It stays in place whether I wear it with my hair up or down.
White Marble Geo Barrette (1 Pc) – $7.99
This barrette has a modern yet classic look. The hardware of this barrette is brushed gold, that has a smooth finish. The barrette is decorated with three white marble circles and two white marble triangles that have a soft matte finish as well.
I honestly can’t remember the last time I’ve worn a barrette. They’re a bit old school for my taste, but as I said, this barrette has a modern look. This is thanks to the geometric design of the white marble circles and triangles. I did have some difficulty clasping this barrette shut at first, but after a few tries I was able to secure it in my hair. I think I may have been trying to put too much hair it in. While this is not my favorite item of the La-Ta-Da bunch, I do love how it dresses up an undone bun.
Marble & Metal Round Barrette (1 Pc) – $7.99
This round barrette with a clip closure is perfect for securing strands of hair or adorning an updo. Like the White Marble Geo Barrette, this barrette has smooth brushed gold hardware. The decorative aspect of this barrette is a semi-circle of white marble inlaid into a semi-circle of brushed gold.
The simple design of this barrette makes it very wearable, yet still a standout when it comes to accessorizing your hair. Like the other barrette, I did find that if I tried to clip too much hair back into this barrette, it wouldn’t fasten. On the other hand, if I didn’t add enough hair to it, it would just slide off or not stay in place. After adding too much hair, then too little, I was able to secure just the right amount.
