This year’s color of the year is . . . ULTRA VIOLET! I’m super excited about this since it is one of my favorite colors.
To get a good sampling of the products available in the Pantone Color of the Year, I purchased the butter LONDON Pantone Color of the Year 2018 Collection. Instead of paying $73.00 for each product individually, I got the 4 products included plus a makeup bag for $36.00.
The Pantone Color of the Year 2018 Collection Set Includes:
• Trend Nail Lacquer in Ultra Violet, fashion size
• Plush Rush Lip Gloss in Ultra Violet, full size
• Glazen™ Eye Gloss in Ultra Violet, full size
• Glazen™ Lustrous Liner in Ultra Violet, full size
• Makeup bag with zipper closure
Trend Nail Lacquer in Ultra Violet – Fashion Size
Let’s get started with what butter LONDON is known for: nail polish.
This purple shade is very pigmented. There is no need to layer to achieve the Ultra Violet color you see in the bottle. This polish is quick drying, it’s very shiny, and it’s chip resistant. Let’s be honest, all nail polishes chip, even gel nails if you wait long enough. Eventually this will chip, but it’s going to last a lot longer than most regular polishes.
On a side note: All butter LONDON polishes are cruelty free and 8-Free.
“. . . butter LONDON does not add Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin, DBP, Toluen, Camphor, Ethyl Tosylamide, Xylene, or TPHP to any of its nail product formulas”
Plush Rush Lip Gloss in Ultra Violet – Full Size
Unfortunately, this product did not work for me. The color is obviously gorgeous, but I can’t seem to apply it evenly. No matter how much I tried to layer this, my top lip had more coverage than my bottom lip. The texture and feel of it were fine, but if it can’t be applied evenly, I don’t really care how good it feels. I’ve tried layering it over a similarly colored violet lipstick and that worked better, but still not good enough. Having a violet lipstick under this gloss helped with the overall look, but the application was still uneven. You can see exactly what I mean in my makeup look photos below.
Glazen™ Eye Gloss in Ultra Violet – Full Size
This has a really interesting texture. It shakes around in the pot like jell-o, but feels almost watery. The wet feel of it dissipates as it dries. It is really strange at first, but once you get over the initial weirdness of the texture you see that this is a great eyeshadow. The coverage and pigmentation that you get from this eye gloss can be easily controlled and the finish is beautiful, it dries to look just like any other pressed eyeshadow. Swipe on just a little bit for a sheer look, like I did below, or layer it to create opaque and intense coverage.
Glazen™ Lustrous Liner in Ultra Violet – Full Size
I was very impressed with this liquid eyeliner. I honestly didn’t have high hopes for it because I have tried so many different liquid eyeliners and have been disappointed by all of them (expect my 2 loves: Kat Von D Tattoo Liner and theBalm Schwing Liquid Eyeliner).
I had the misconception that this was strictly an Ultra Violet liner. It isn’t, it’s actually a black liner with an Ultra Violet shimmer. The intensity of the Ultra Violet shimmer and where it shines depends on how the light hits it. It’s not overwhelming either, the shimmer is subtle enough to be able to wear this on a daily basis.
This liquid eyeliner is surprisingly easy to apply and quite precise. It does dry very quickly though, so you’ll need to correct mistakes ASAP or they’ll be difficult to get rid of. I not only see myself re-purchasing this shade of butter LONDON’s Lustrous Liner, but I’d like to try it in other shades too.
Makeup Bag with Zipper Closure
This makeup bag is a good size and high-quality. It seems like free makeup bags are thrown into every makeup/skincare set and it’s totally unnecessary. Especially if the quality is bad, then it’s down right annoying. Why waste materials on something that will just have to be thrown away anyway? With the number of makeup bags I know that we all have, getting a quality one is a must! Being a decent size helps too. This makeup bag checks off all of my requirements and I’ll be adding it to my collection knowing that I’ll get some use out of it.
From Left to Right we have: Glazen™ Eye Gloss in Ultra Violet, Glazen™ Lustrous Liner in Ultra Violet, then Plush Rush Lip Gloss in Ultra Violet.
If you’re loving this year’s Color of the Year, than this set is the best way to incorporate it into your nail and makeup collection. Purchasing this kit vs. each product individually will save you $37.00, which is more than this kit costs! No, I’m not a huge fan of the Plush Rush Lip Gloss on its own, but other than that, I love the rest of the products included.

I created the above makeup look using the Plush Rush Lip Gloss in Ultra Violet, Glazen™ Eye Gloss in Ultra Violet, and Glazen™ Lustrous Liner in Ultra Violet. I chose not to build up the eye gloss to give the Ultra Violet shade a slightly softer look. I layered the plush rush lip gloss over a matte purple lipstick that was a few shades lighter than the gloss. I think that putting a lipstick under it helped, but the color was still a touch uneven on my bottom lip.
