Today’s toddler activity was inspired by a fellow blogger. I saw the idea for Sticker Sorting on Pinterest and knew it would be a fun task for my little one that was cheap and easy to set up. Set up is so quick, your toddler won’t lose interest in what you’re doing before the actual activity even begins. The purpose of sticker sorting is for your toddler to match the color of a sticker with the color of a sheet of construction paper.
This activity gives your child the opportunity to practice:
- fine motor skills,
- sorting skills, and
- color recognition.
For this Sticker Sorting Toddler Activity, you’ll need the following:
- Construction Paper in Multiple Colors
- Circular (or Star Shaped) Stickers in Multiple Colors
- Tape
Chances are you already have these items handy. If not you could run to your nearest drugstore or big box store and get them easily. If you have a few days, ordering them on Amazon.com is an option too.
Just so you know: I may get a commission if you purchase any products after clicking the links in this post. Using my links to shop is a great way to support my blog!
To get the party started, first tape the construction paper, one sheet of each color, onto a bare wall. Be sure to tape the construction paper at your toddlers height so they can easily reach each color.
For added fun, we used washi tape in lieu of regular tape.
Next, bust out the stickers and let the sorting begin.
Have your child peel and then stick the stickers by themselves. They’ll probably need some help, but that’s the point: to learn and play together.
I would encourage your little one to use at least one sticker from each color available, but they’re most likely going to favor some colors over others. If they sort a bunch of orange stickers and only 1 of some other colors, no big deal. As long as they’re enjoying themselves you can consider the activity a success!
On a side note, if they stick a pink sticker on a green sheet of construction paper, let them. If they do this, you can remind them that they’re trying to sort and match the colors and you can show them the correct match. Other than that, I wouldn’t worry about it.
Once she got the hang of it, my little one loved this activity. She used almost every orange sticker we had. After that, she peeled some of the stickers off of the construction paper so she could stick them down again.
If you plan on doing this activity with your toddler or have done this activity already, please let me know! I’d love to hear about your experience. The comment section is below, just keep scrolling!
Have a fantastic day!

Great idea! One question though, what age would you recommend this activity for? My toddler is almost 2 years old…
