Toddler Activities: Mess-Free Glitter Arts and Crafts

You may not have time to complete this holiday activity before Christmas on Monday, but you could easily do it next week while the little ones are home from school. In my opinion, celebrating Christmas starts tomorrow (Christmas Eve) and lasts until New Year’s Eve!

To complete this cheap, easy, and fun toddler activity, all you need is a Mess-Free Glitter kit. Melissa and Doug sell several, this isn’t a sponsored post, I just think their Mess-Free Glitter Kits are the best. In the photos in this post we’re using Melissa & Doug Mess-Free Glitter Holiday Ornaments, but you can also get the sets listed below. The following sets are not Holiday related, so you can get crafty with them whenever you’d like.

These are recommended to be used with children 5+ and are not intended for children under 3 years. That being said, I did this with my 2 and 1/2 year old. As expected, the older your child, the longer this type of activity would hold their attention. It didn’t hold my toddler’s attention for very long, but with supervision she did complete an ornament and a 1/2 with me before moving onto something else. In my mind, that made it worth it.

I finished another 2 and 1/2 ornaments and she loved them. We hung the glimmering ornaments on the tree, she took them off. We put them on a window, she took them off. I put them back on the window and I’m pretty sure they’re still there in all of their shimmering glory!

Take a look at us completing our mess-free glitter ornaments:

Next: Press the glitter onto the sticker and rub it in. We’re using white glitter in this picture. The little one started off very interested and she helped!

Voila! The shimmery, white star on top of the tree.

As the little one’s interest started to wan, her buddies joined in on the fun. First, a truck helped rub the glitter in. In this picture, we’re using red glitter to fill in the ornaments on the tree.

James and Thomas joined in as we filled in the tree trunk! We used a bronze glitter for that.

I had a good time doing this and I think my toddler did too. The process of creating the glittering ornaments was fun and we are now enjoying the ornaments as decorations. Plus, clean up was minimal!
