September 2017 Cruelty Free Beauty Box

The Julep Beauty Box Break Down:

Every month a new beauty box collection is released. This monthly collection of products includes beauty products and brand new nail polish colors, including some that may be limited edition.

New collections are released and you can customize what you receive in your box between the 20th and 24th of each month. During this time period you have the opportunity to pick exactly what you get in the following month’s box. You also have the option to upgrade your box and/or select add on products at Maven-only prices to be shipped with your box at no additional charge. Once you subscribe to Julep, you become a Maven. Once you’re a Maven, any and all products on Julep.com are offered to you at a discounted price.

Depending on your answers to the Beauty Bio questions and your personalized selections, you’ll receive only nail polishes, a combination of nail polishes and beauty products, or only beauty products. This month I chose to receive only beauty products.

Julep offers 2 levels of boxes: the My Maven Beauty Box (which this post focuses on) and the Maven Luxe Box.

  • The My Maven Beauty Box contains $40+ worth of products for $24.99/month or $19.99/month with a 3-month prepaid subscription.
  • The Maven Luxe Box contains $60+ worth of products for $39.99/month or $34.99/month with a 3-month prepaid subscription.

September 2017 Value Based on My Personal Selections:

  • $58.00
  • $46.40 for Mavens

Boxes ship out every month starting on the 27th, they continue shipping for the next couple of weeks. It takes boxes 7-10 days to arrive. I’ve been receiving my boxes very early in the month, around the 5th.

You can easily cancel by calling or e-mailing Julep, specifics are on their FAQ page. Besides cancelling, you have the option to skip a month. This can be done by logging into your account between the 20th and 24th and selecting “Edit My Box.” Next select “Edit Your Details,” then select the option “Skip this month.”

Inside the September 2017 My Maven Beauty Box, I received:

  • Cushion Complexion 5-in-1 Skin Perfector with Turmeric – $30.00 $24.00 for Mavens
  • Blank Canvas Mattifying Treatment Primer – $28.00 $22.40 for Mavens

Julep September 2017 Unboxing

 Cushion Complexion concealer
Cushion Complexion 5-in-1 Skin Perfector with Turmeric
This multi-tasking product promises to conceal, correct, illuminate, blur, and brighten. The difference between illuminate and brighten? I’m not so sure. The benefit of Turmeric is that it naturally provides long-term brightening effects. Other beneficial elements in this product are Camellia Seed Oil and Soft-Focus Powders. The Camellia Seed Oil has skin-calming properties, while the Soft-Focus Powders blur the look of fine lines.
This concealer has a demi-matte finish that provides sheer to medium coverage. It is a bit thinner in consistency than I was hoping. You can build it, but even by doing that I could only obtain a medium coverage. I prefer medium to full coverage concealers, so while this product has a lot of great skin benefits, it doesn’t work as well as I had hoped. To get all the details, click here.

Cruelty Free Mattifying Primer

Blank Canvas Mattifying Treatment Primer

I’m always a big fan of mattifying primers! This primer has a thick consistency that applies smoothly. While not leaving your skin dry, it will absorb excess oils throughout the day leaving you with a matte, not dull, finish. Using this primer will not only leave your skin looking smooth, it will feel smooth as well. This is due to the 18 plant and fruit extracts that it is formulated with. The addition of these natural elements gives you long-term nourishing and brightening benefits. Now, if only they could incorporate some SPF. You know me, I love multi-tasking products! Cruelty Free Beauty Box

Bottom Line:  I love that you can completely customize this box, basically making it a discount monthly makeup delivery service. Needing some of-the-moment nail polish colors? Done. Loving the latest makeup product they released? It’s yours! Being surprised is nice, but not selecting exactly what you get in a subscription box leaves room for disappointment and products you’ll never use. That problem is completely eliminated with this box and, overall, the products are phenomenal (and cruelty free)!
