San Francisco Comic Con 2017

san franciscocomic con

San Francisco Comic Con 2017 is happening RIGHT NOW! The convention started on Friday and today is the last day. My family and I attended yesterday, after deciding on Friday that we’d like to go. That’s generally when our Saturday plans are made, at dinner on Friday. 🙂 I’m glad we decided to go, because we had a fantastic time. Our little one started to melt down before we had a chance to snap a pic with Peter Capaldi (The 12th Doctor in Doctor Who), but we did see him giving autographs from afar! Not bad for toting around a toddler.

Overall, San Francisco Comic Con is family-friendly and reasonably priced. Adult tickets were $80 for all 3 days or $30-$50 for single day tickets. Kids under 12 were free!

Arriving pretty early in the day, before 11:00 am, the vendor hall on the first floor wasn’t too crowded. People really started to pack themselves in later in the afternoon. Having so many purchase options, we couldn’t resist picking up a few things. We left the con with several more items than we walked in with. We picked up art by Kaz Palladino of Awkward Affections (she signed it!), Mystery Boxes from Toynk.com, and 2 Funko Pop Dolls. 🙂

The cosplay was impressive and I was so bummed we didn’t dress up, we’ll 100% be dressing up next year!

The event list was EXTENSIVE. A few highlights for us were:

  • NERDS IN TRAINING: KIDS ZONE: Crafts, building, movies, and coloring.
  • LEVEL UP!: GAMING CENTER: Tabletop gaming, RPG, board gaming, VR, and more.
  • STAR WARS COSTUME CLUB EXPERIENCE
  • COSPLAY CONTEST

Our little one enjoyed coloring with markers, a first for her, and watching a tiny bit of an animated film in the Kids Zone. Of course, in addition to all of the events, there were many panels, meet and greets, and Q&As. We knew better than to think the little one would have any interest in these at all, so we skipped them completely, even the Peter Capaldi one! Sometimes parenting is hard, really hard…

I’m already looking forward to next year and thinking about what we’ll cosplay as. I must admit, I’m also trying to figure out when we might be able to attend the ultimate comic con: San Diego Comic Con.

Have you ever been to a comic con? Comment and let me know!
