What to Wear to a Summer Wedding

The summer season = wedding season! Browse this list of dresses to wear to a summer wedding to find the perfect dress for any occasion you'll be attending this summer.

From informal backyard gatherings to extravagant black tie affairs, I’ve got a recommendation and styling ideas for you! To shop any of these dresses, just click the link below them.

What to Wear to an Outdoor Wedding During the Summer:

Go for something light and relaxed.

Shop Now: Topshop One-Shoulder Popover Shift Dress

With this dress, I recommend wearing some flat or heeled strappy nude sandals (wedges if you’ll be walking on grass). Delicate gold jewelry would be the icing on the cake. 😉

Harmonious Ceremony Maxi Dress in Mint in M
Shop Now: Harmonious Ceremony Maxi Dress in Mint

I’d style this dress with pale pink or nude heeled sandals, again I’d recommend wedges if you’ll be walking around on grass. I think a crossbody bag with a chain strap would look cute along with delicate, dangling earrings.

What to Wear to a Beach Wedding:

Go for something flowing with a relaxed ruffle.

Shop Now: Ali & Jay Moroccan Villa Maxi Dress

Wear this dress with your hair down in loose waves and flat gold or beige sandals. Go with a gold, eye-catching clutch and gold jewelry.

Shop Now: Dee Elly Ruffle Halter Midi Dress

I’d style this dress with light gray wedges, with some silver in them if possible. Silver statement earrings and a large, whimsical cocktail right would look superb. Last thing, an embellished silver clutch!

What to Wear to a Summer Wedding with a Religious Ceremony:

Go for something that covers your shoulders. Keep it modest, but stylish!

Shop Now: Alfred Sung Woven Fit & Flare Dress

Style this dress with closed-toe heels. Since the dress is so vibrant, keep the shoes and accessories neutral. Like the photo above, go with statement earrings instead of a necklace.

Shop Now: Charles Henry Ruffle Shift Dress

Being covered entirely in lace, I recommend keeping shoes and accessories with this dress simple and understated. Let the dress do the talking! For the accessories and shoes, go with nudes and golds.

What to Wear to a Summer Wedding that Requests Cocktail Attire:

Go for something with intricate details and embellishments.

Shop Now: Bardot ‘Gemma’ Halter Lace Sheath Dress

Gold accessories would look gorgeous with this hunter green dress. I’m thinking studs, large bangle bracelet, clutch, and killer heels.

Shop Now: Dress The Population Abbie Minidress

Black heels and an ornate black clutch, no colors, just black. Also, put on some black tassel earrings to top off the look.

What to Wear to a Summer Wedding that is Black Tie Optional:

Go for a full length gown with flowy material and a bold print.

Shop Now: Eliza J Belted Chiffon Maxi Dress

Style this dress with shiny gold shoes. Wear you’re hair up, but in a loose and wispy hairstyle. Some subtle studs and a thin gold bangle would make this ensemble look polished.

Shop Now: Eliza J Floral Print Chiffon Maxi Dress

I recommend styling this dress with black: black strappy heels, a black understated clutch, and black nail polish! I think black statement earrings would look exquisite too.

What to Wear to a Summer Wedding that is Black Tie:

Go for a full length gown with show-stopping sparkle and eye-catching embellishments!

Shop Now: Adrianna Papell Embellished Blouson Gown

With this dress, put on some gorgeous gold or nude strappy sandals. I also recommend a gold lariat necklace and dangling earrings. Wear your hair up to show off your jewelry.

Shop Now: Morgan & Co. Lace & Jersey Gown

I love the subtle sparkle in the lace of this dress! Play that sparkle up my pairing this dress with beaded sparkling heels, sparkling statement earrings, and a large sparkling cuff. You can never have too much sparkle!
