Get Rid of Dark Under Eye Circles

In this post you'll find out how to get rid of dark under eye circles in 3 easy steps!

I have hereditary under eye circles, but you may also notice darkness under your eyes if you’re suffering from allergies, not getting enough sleep, or even if you’ve overslept. The darkness under eyes is specifically caused by dilated blood vessels. So, what can you do?

Step 1: First of all, you’ll need an effective eye cream. Look for eye creams with Vitamin C and/or Vitamin A. Vitamin C has skin lightening properties, brightening the under eye area. Vitamin A fades pigment and increases collagen production, which thickens skin and therefore makes it less transparent. Products formulated with retinol and caffeine are also ideal when trying to get rid of dark under eye circles.

Finding a product with all of the above ingredients is a tall order, so shop around, try out some products formulated with as many of the above ingredients as possible and see what works best for you. If you buy something, try it, and decide it’s not for you, return it! Most department stores and beauty stores have great return policies, just be sure to hang on to the original packaging and your receipt to lessen the chance you’ll have issues making a return or exchange. Some of my favorite under eye creams, that you may want to try, are Origins Gin-Zing Refreshing Eye Cream to Brighten and DePuff, Farmacy Eye Dew Total Eye Cream with Echinacea GreenEnvy (pictured above), and Murad Essential-C Eye Cream.

Color Correcting Concealers

Step 2: Once you’ve applied the perfect eye cream for you, follow up with a color correcting concealer. A color correcting concealer is pretty self-explanatory, it will correct the color of your under eye area prepping it for makeup application. For dark circles, use a pink/peach or yellow color correcting concealer. Both of these colors will combat dullness. Pink/peach is better for fair skin and yellow is better for olive skin tones. Having an olive skin tone, my current favorite color correcting concealer is the yellow shade in the e.l.f. Corrective Concealer palette. To read my full review of this palette, click here.

Step 3: The last step you’ll want to take to get rid of dark under eye circles is to conceal them. You’ll want a medium-to-full coverage concealer that is creamy, allowing it to glide on easily. Match your concealer color to your foundation shade to create an overall flawless face. I’m currently loving Bobbi Brown’s Creamy Concealer, I use it to camouflage my dark under eye circles everyday! The Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer Kit is fabulous too.
